This July 4th, America will mark a remarkable milestone: 250 years. It is a moment to celebrate how far we have come, reflect honestly on where we are, and imagine what an even more resilient future could look like.
Many of us are living through an era of unusual change, uncertainty, and stress. At Adaptive Human Capital, we exist to help build resilience in individuals, organizations, and communities. This holiday offers a timely opportunity to reflect on our current state and imagine what a stronger future might look like.
In times of stress and uncertainty, it is especially important to envision a better end game: a future that is stronger than our current condition. That is true for us as individuals, and it is also true for us collectively as a nation.
What might a future America look like? How might it more fully live out its ideals of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for each of us? How might the next 250 years more clearly reflect the best of the founders’ vision?
We think of this as America 2.0: a future that builds on the successes of the last 250 years, learns from our failures, and applies resilience not only to individuals and organizations, but also to our shared national story.
When we, as humans, experience stress and uncertainty, it is easy to focus on everything that could go wrong. But when we intentionally and honestly imagine a better future, we create a future-oriented mindset that can improve both our outlook and our actions.
This holiday, we invite you to take a few minutes to imagine that future. Enjoy time with family and friends, celebrate the progress that made this milestone possible, and begin next week with one action that moves you—and all of us—toward the America we hope to become.
Happy Independence Day.
